Toshiba Air Conditioning Plans New Products, Expands Research Facility

Expect some exciting developments coming from Toshiba Air Conditioning in the next five years. The firm has promised a raft of new products and a major expansion of its production capacity as it seeks to double sales by 2020 as part of a five-year growth strategy, says ACR News.

The company has come up roses over the past five years – in spite of challenging market conditions – having achieved double-digit growth. Now it has announced an ambitious growth strategy, which includes the introduction of new products, increased stocking levels, a major expansion in production capacity and the roll-out of a global training initiative.

As part of the plans, Toshiba will add an additional 44,000 sq ft of racking space to its facility in Plymouth, to ensure immediate product availability across its most popular ranges of split and VRF air conditioning, the firm said. In addition, approximately 350 design engineers will be hired to work on research and development (R&D), fast-tracking product development and the introduction of new air conditioning technologies.

Toshiba has already begun work on an extension to its state-of-the-art factory in Thailand, which boasts world-class R&D facilities. This major extension is due for completion later this year.

The plans follow the creation of a building technologies unit by United Technologies called the Building and Industrial System (BIS) group, which brings together Toshiba Air Conditioning with Carrier Air Conditioning, Chubb security and fire systems, and lift specialists Otis.
